Front Cover: Sisters’ double wedding. Lilian and Gertie Phillips, from Ropewalk Road, New Dock, celebrated a double wedding at Siloah Chapel, Seaside, on 24th March, 1931. On the left is bride, Lilian Phillips, and her husband, David Evans, a collier from Tumble. They had three children, Selina Scurry and Teifion. On the right is bride, Gertie Phillips, with her husband, Reg Guy, a fruit and vegetable mobile shopkeeper, who came from the Rhondda. Gertie and Reg are the parents of Violet, Malcolm and Mavis. Violet is a loyal member and wife of the history group’s treasurer, Alwyn Jones of Bethania Chapel. The minister, standing behind the two brides, was Rev. Hughes Jones. Logo: A sailing ship passing through the Stepney Spare Wheel, from an original drawing by member, Yvonne Jones, depicting the maritime and industrial heritage of Glanymor (Seaside) and Tyisha.
Sincere thanks to members, relatives, friends and acquaintances who have helped by providing information and photographs, without which A People’s History would not be possible. A special thank you is extended to our President, Catherine Thomas, for her support and our Vice-President, John Edwards, for his guidance, support and editorial expertise.
The History Group is eternally grateful to Clive Davies of Clive Davies Design Associates who has guided us through the process of producing ‘A People’s History: Glanymor & Tyisha’ since the first publication in 2004. His patience and expertise are second to none and much appreciated.
