Tabernacle was formed when a group of members from Soar chapel, Llwynhendy left to form a new church. There were originally 185 members when the chapel was completed in 1895 and by the time the new chapel was officially opened on 1 May 1896 there were 200 members.

By 1910 the Tabernacle membership had grown to 429. All the local chapels had a strong choral tradition, Tabernacle had both junior and adult choirs and were proud of their male voice choir.
