Dock Chapel

Built in 1868 Dock Chapel and the Church Hall were two of the 104 properties that formed the Biddulph estate which included Dafen Row, Biddulph Street, New Street, Chapel Street and Station Terrace. The Chapel opened in 1868 and by 1871 there were 126 members who were burdened with a debt of £1,200 for its construction.

By 1910 membership had grown to 300. Built in a very industrialised part of the town, the minister commented “that this was an industrial community and the membership was always changing because large numbers of young people were leaving the community.”
