The Calvinistic Methodists of the Presbyterian Church worshipped at Gelli Onn until their first Calvinistic Methodist Church was built on the Mount Pleasant site in 1809.

Capel Newydd was rebuilt in 1820 and again in 1840. The structure built in 1840 was completely renovated more than 100 years later in 1949.
