Miramar Hotel

Hotel Miramar (Station Hotel)

The Miramar was previously called the Station Hotel

The Miramar was originally a small traditional public house built in the early part of the 19th century. The premises had a snug, a smoke room and the beer would have been served from wooden casks.

The Census of 1841 and 1851 do not mention the public house by name but by 1861 it was known as the Station Hotel, Station Road, and the Landlord was a Robert McCullock, Draper and Innkeeper from Scotland.

When the Great Western Railway arrived in Llanelli, the Station Hotel catered for the increasing numbers of passengers travelling to and from the town and the hotel had to be altered to accommodate those needing refreshments and a place to stay.

In 1979 the Station Hotel became known as the Hotel Miramar, when Jose and Tina Nunes from Portugal transformed the premises into a unique establishment serving a range of traditional Portuguese meals with accommodation for visitors and travellers. The Nunes family managed the business for more than 20 years until their retirement when the establishment was taken over by a new management structure.
